Our Evaluation Process

Every item we consider goes through a careful evaluation process. Whether you're selling, consigning, or asking us to authenticate a purchase, here's what we do:

Initial Assessment

We examine the item's overall appearance, condition, and any obvious characteristics. This gives us a baseline understanding of what we're working with.

Research & Attribution

Using reference materials, databases, and our accumulated knowledge, we identify the item precisely—date, mint, edition, variant, or other relevant details.

Authenticity Verification

We check for signs of counterfeiting, alteration, or repair. This may include physical measurements, visual examination under magnification, and comparison with known genuine examples.

Condition Grading

We assess condition using standard terminology for each category. We document any flaws, wear, damage, or notable characteristics that affect value.

Market Research

We research recent sales of comparable items, considering auction results, dealer prices, and current market trends to understand fair market value.

Authentication Methods

Authenticity is paramount in the collectibles market. We employ multiple methods to verify items, depending on the category and value:

Physical Examination

We examine weight, dimensions, metal content (for coins), paper quality (for currency and books), printing characteristics, and other physical attributes that distinguish genuine items from fakes.

Visual Analysis

Using magnification and proper lighting, we look for die characteristics, printing details, wear patterns, and other visual markers consistent with authentic items.

Reference Comparison

We maintain an extensive library of reference materials and have access to databases that help us identify and authenticate items. For unusual pieces, we may consult with specialists.

Third-Party Grading

For high-value items or when additional assurance is warranted, we can facilitate submission to recognized third-party grading services:

Pricing Philosophy

We believe in transparent, fair pricing—whether we're making an offer to buy or setting a price to sell. Here's how we approach valuation:

Market-Based Pricing

We base our valuations on actual market data: recent auction results, dealer prices, and documented sales. We don't pull numbers from thin air, and we're happy to explain our reasoning.

Condition Sensitivity

Condition dramatically affects value in most collecting categories. A coin or card in excellent condition might be worth ten times more than the same item in poor condition. We grade conservatively and price accordingly.

When We Buy

Our offers reflect wholesale value—what we can reasonably pay while still being able to resell the item at a profit. This typically means we offer 50-70% of expected retail value, depending on the item's liquidity and our confidence in selling it.

When We Sell

Our retail prices aim to be competitive with the broader market while reflecting the quality and authenticity we guarantee. We'd rather price fairly and build long-term relationships than maximize short-term profit.

Shipping & Handling

Collectibles require careful handling. Here's how we ensure items arrive safely:

Secure Packaging

We use appropriate holders, sleeves, and protective materials for each item type. Coins go in flips or holders, cards in toploaders and team bags, books are wrapped to prevent rubbing. Everything is packaged to withstand normal shipping stresses.

Insurance

All shipments are insured for their full value. We use carriers with tracking and signature confirmation for valuable items. If something goes wrong in transit, you're protected.

Shipping Costs

Shipping costs depend on the size, weight, and value of items. We use USPS Priority Mail, UPS, and FedEx depending on what's most appropriate. We're happy to quote shipping costs before any transaction.

International Shipping

We can ship internationally, though customs regulations vary by country. International buyers are responsible for any import duties or taxes. Please inquire for specific destinations.

Insurance & Security

Trust requires security. Here's how we protect items in our care:

Physical Security

Items in our possession are stored securely. We maintain appropriate insurance coverage for inventory and consigned items. High-value pieces may be stored in a secure facility.

Documentation

We photograph and document all significant items. For consignments, you receive written confirmation of what we've received and agreed-upon terms. We maintain records of all transactions.

Transaction Security

We use secure payment methods and don't ask for sensitive financial information via email. Large transactions may require identity verification to protect both parties.

Discretion

We understand that collectors value privacy. We don't disclose client information or discuss specific collections without permission.

Initial assessments from photos typically take 1-2 business days. In-person evaluations depend on the size of the collection. We'll give you a timeframe when you contact us.

Basic evaluations for potential sales are free. If you need a formal written appraisal for insurance or estate purposes, fees apply based on the scope of work.

No pressure. If our offer doesn't work for you, we'll return your items at our expense (if you shipped them to us) or you can pick them up. No hard feelings.

How quickly do you pay?

Once we've received and verified items and you've accepted our offer, payment is typically issued within 1-3 business days via your preferred method.
